Pier Dandini (Florence, 1646-1712) - Judith with the head of Holofernes
Author : Pier Dandini
Period: 17th century
Oil on canvas, 54.5 × 78 cm. On the back, there is the label of the First Pistoia Provincial Exhibition July-September 1929, Sacred Art Section, with the indication of the Giovanni Mazzei collection. In this pair of canvases, the theme, which was so successful between Caravaggio and his followers, of the confrontation between the horror of the severed enemy's head and the displayed and brazen youth of the biblical hero and heroine is resolved in an elegant painting, graceful in the lightings of color and in the crackling draperies: a taste, that of the last Medici, which opens to the eighteenth century. The works are accompanied by a study by Professor Francesca Baldassarri. "Tactile Values" publications,
